I really need to thank our parents for letting us listen to what we wanted to music wise. I remember rearranging our oldest sister's LPs that were neatly displayed in the wire rack on the hi-fi. Let's put a Bobby Darin first, move a Connie Francis up to second, and drop one of the Buddy Holly's down to third. Maybe that's where I got the "list bug" from. I grew up listening to "W-O-W-O, eleven ninety in Fort Wayne" when we lived in Indiana. When we moved back to Detroit, it was WKNR (Keener 13) and CKLW (the Big 8). For a short time, CK was the #1 music station in North America. Back then, it was all about AM Top 40, and that is where my love of the music has always been. Fast forward to today, where the non-radio guy will school little bro on the correct way to rank songs.

There is a picture of me standing on top of an ottoman looking down at the turntable on the family console stereo, taken when I was thirteen months old. Mr. G passed down a lot of 45's and that got me started. I eventually collected thousands of 45's, along with several thousand albums. Growing up listening to CKLW in Detroit, I wanted to be on the radio. I used to play my 45's in the basement and do a countdown all the time - and that was before I had ever heard of Casey Kasem. Eventually, I got jobs at radio stations, a career that lasted for 24 years. I'm still addicted to listening to old AT40 shows (the best), and I've got many of the Joel Whitburn books. My brother and I have been doing lists for years, so we decided to bring this idea to a podcast. He wishes he had my skills.
